Some thoughts

Life has been good.. hmmm, cos it has not been bad.. you know, haha~ I bet you get what I am trying to say.

While I was uploading the pics and blogging about my sixth day in Korea, I started to miss the places what we had gone to, the authentic Korean food, the feeling as a tourist, the thrill, the cold, and of course the conversations we had and the companionship.

Someday, I shall revisit Korea again. Am planning to further my studies as well. Thus this trip is gonna be after my studies. Am looking around for suitable schools too. Money is the hard part. Gonna do planning and be realistic about it. People who know me will know that I am a rather idealistic person and I know this is not going to work, I gonna be more realistic and then I'll talk to people who are like that so that the lesser mistake I will make. May the good Lord bless and guide me =)

Well for holidaying or backpacking, I feel it is always great to have a companion for me, not too many though cos some inconvenience might be caused. Two or four is a goot number to keep to. Of cos, people who share similar interests is a must. And it can be a bonus to get the chance to know more about each others. Other than that, tolerance, understanding, knowledge, interpersonal skill are involved. Basically travelling is more than just having fun.

Ahhh.. haha but pls don't get misunderstood that I've the desire to travel right now. In fact, I don't even have the mood to spend. Thinking of getting myself a saving plan which earns higher interest too. POSB's interest is always pathetic, est 0.25%. Let's make money work for myself rather than I working for money. Haha~ So that I can have enough for my studies. Yay~

Oeode Island

Note: Photos to be updated soon

We woke up pretty late because this day was a day to restore ourselves with lot of energy. Last night, there was this spread of itch on my small thigh which disturbed my sleep. It was not bedbugs, perhaps some temporary skin allergy. I got up to bathroom to wash my leg. However and unfortunately I did not turn on the shower knob properly and ended with water sprayed onto my back. No photo to show you now pathetic I looked though.

Luckily, it was not that bad.

I applied some lotion on my thigh and got back to bed. I did not want to change my pajamas because I only had one pair. Thus I took them off and slept naked (not totally, I still had my undergarments), with the think blanket pulled over which was super duper comfortable and filled with warmth. Just imagine that it was freezing outside and I could experience such a wonderful comfort in my bed. Thanks Lord.

Anyway, back to Day Six.

[1] A machine which sells condom in the women's toilet!
Too bad I didn't take down the price

[2] A super long banner with Korean words

I greedily shared Mabel's sandwich that she bought from the convenience store at the ground level. Because she offered it to me and being a nice friend, I would not wanna hurt her feeling with rejection so I promptly accepted. By the way, the cashier was a Uni student and she knew a bit of Mandarin because she learnt it from her HK classmate when she was studying in China. Kinda ironic because it was a HK student teaching her Mandarin. I thought HKers are better in Cantonese? Anyway…

Carolynn, Mabel and I were on our way to Oeodo Island. It was going to be a long journey but all of us were just looking forward to that because the last scene in Winter Sonata was filmed there. The house that Jun Xiang had designed in memory of his love with You Zhen was situated at Oeodo Island as well. Gosh, it was like heaven but Carolynn and I almost vomited before we entered into that paradise.

Because…

I made a mistake. I should not have eaten that cheesecake. The truth was the speed of that ferry was no joke. It was vigorously 'swimming' up and down like a salmon against waves. Carolynn was already tearing after 8.99 minutes of the ride. Just imagine there is another ferry ride after this which would eventually bring us to Oeodo Island.

2 ADVICES here.

1. Do sit at the back of the ferry as you will feel less vigorous of the movement.

2. Breathe in and out with the movement.

This was the most terrible and expensive ferry ride I have taken in Korea. The 50-min killer ferry cost W19,200 (one-way only) per pax + a subsequent ferry ride W15,000 from Goe Jae terminal to the island and + entry tix W5,000 + a return fee by the killer ferry. In all, each of us spent SGD129 to get to this Oeode Island. But it was worth the money and the truth is that even the ferry tix booth attendant had not been to Oeode Island herself before. It was just like I had not been to the peak of Bukit Timah Hill before as well. Ha~

Another interesting thing was that the guide on the ferry (Ferry No.6) was hosting everything in only Korean and we wondered if they know that there were foreigners visiting the island.

Geo Jae Island is South Korea's second biggest island. I guess the first is Jeju Island.

I also realised that the older generation of the men and women Koreans did not eat together as couples. The women and men were sat on separated tables.

Oeodo Island was manned by 40 gardeners.

We decided not to shop at PIFF department store bcos it was already 6pm. We got back to the hostel at 7pm eventually.

You might be wondering, "What happened to Jessica?" She had decided to save up that travel fee for her shopping splurge later but today she was visiting the Busan Art Museum.

Apparel Eye Candies

S.Kr | Mar 29, 2006 | Day 5

NOTE: Pls change your encoding mode to Korean

[1] Door to our room, room no.401
[2] A very clean hostel

This was our second day in Busan.

From the Busan Museum of Modern Art subway station (½Ã¸²¹Ì¼ú°ü), heading to Suyeong Interchange (¼ö¿µ) and changed to Yeonsan-Dong interchange  (¿¬»êµ¿).

[1] A church along the road opposite from our hostel and next to the subway

[2] Weirdly-dressed Korean hiker

During these few days, I have noticed that Koreans are very friendly towards each others. Two acquaintances could start a casual conversation while walking to the train or in the train out of a sudden.

After transferring from Yeonsan-Dong interchange, it is now 11:17 and we were in orange line to Beomeosa subway station (¹ü¾î»ç). The train decelerated and stopped, a middle-aged office-attired man walked in, greeted, ¡°anyeonghasaeyo¡± and started to talk about this product that he was selling - Mini torch lights. Incredible.

[1] Pathway going up to Beomeosa Temple
[2] School kids having education excursion trip to the temple

We reached
Beomeosa Temple, which is located at the edge of a mountain in Busan, Mount Geumjeongsan. This temple has existed since 1,300 years ago but was later renovated in 1713, after Japan had left Korea. The architecture is very much like Chinese Buddhist temple due to much influence between the two countries in the past. Chinese words are seen craved on the pillars and pretty lots of Peach Blossom too.

[1] Peach Blossom trees in the temple
[2] Some Ah Ju Ma's funky shoes

[
1] Apparently this was a No-Entry sign but I didn't know and entered. My three friends followed. We happily took pictures but later awkwardly got called out by a Ah Jeo Ssi... Ha. That was the premise for the temple stay guests.
[2] See what's behind the fence gate! So beautiful
...!

A glimpse of an artist sitting amidst the
trees outside the temple painting

It was already 1345 and we had our Jajangmeong (Â¥ Àå¸í/Þà酱Øü) at one of the shops down the street coming down hill from Beomeosa Temple.

[1] We had out first Jajangmeong here in Busan, near Beomeosa subway station

[2] Mashiseoyo! Someone ate Bibimbab... Was it Carolynn ssi?

They have very big and juicy and SWEET strawberries. Do try some of their local fruits if you ever get to S.Korea 'cos seldom/never would you get to taste them in Singapore.

According to the Lonely Planet, there is this famous Pajeon (Green Onion pancake) selling around the area. By the time we remembered this, we were already in the subway station on the way to our next destination. But but but, I just couldn¡¯t bear the thought of missing the chance to taste this seemingly famous pancake. Thus Mabel, Jessica and I got back to the street and began the search of this shop selling the famous Pajeon. I asked the auntie from the place where we had our Jajangmeong but she referred me to another area which was further away. According to the book, it shouldn't be wrong so I walked further down the street and saw this Ah Ju Ma selling vegetables by the roadside and decided to try my luck asking her.. Hmm, seemed impossible.. So what do you think?

Heh heh surprisingly, Super Ah Ju Ma totally understood what I was talking about and pointed to the shop in front of right from where we were. I still could remember how surprised

Carolynn ssi was when we came back to the subway with the freshly cooked Pajeon (it was so near yet so far). The smell of it was goot.. W5,000, cheaper than what was mentioned in Lonely Planet!

[1] Took the exterior of the shop selling Pajeon while waiting for mine to be cooked

[2] I really dislike blurry photos but this is the only decent one taken on the Pajeon so far. Ah Ju Ma's frying skill is too invincible..

Here she is..

Proceeding to the next destination and sad to say I forgot what was the name of the mountain but the area was well-known for their spring water. Carolynn went for it while Mabel, Jessica and I decided to take the cable car up the mountain. Before we went ahead, we enjoyed the delicious Pajeon and Kim Bab under the pavilion.

[1] In the cable car travelling up mountain; magnificent sight of Busan city

[2] That middle one in HF's pink sweater was me, not the pillars, taken on the mountain

Stated in Lonely Planet that there are stores sited on the mountain, selling delicious duck dishes or organs..

So where are we now? Here is Busan Lotte World Department. I only could afford to do window-shopping 'cos the stuff are like what we have in TANGS, ex.

Busan Lotte World Department

Check out the stuff >> AHAHAHAH!!!

Guess who is the male spokesperson...

Daniel Henney!

Actually this was my main focus lah.. haHA.

Athens-Choi¡¯s designs are extraordinary! It is a contemporary style of Korean¡¯s female traditional clothing, Han Bok.

[1] These were what we bought.. wow, BYJ on a can!

[2] BYJ on instant coffee mix! He is everywhere!!

Carolynn was feeling tired so she headed back to hostel while Mabel and I shopped on our own and Shopaholic Jessica shopped by herself too. Mabel and I went to the Basement 1 to shop for groceries instead. We decided not to eat in their food court because the food was expensive too.

For A Turkish wrap – W3,500 (S$5.80). You can find it in Singapore for like S$3-4 loh. Dumplings selling at W5,000 (S$8,30) for 10 pcs.

Ok, we cheapskate Singaporeans..

Coincidently, Jessica and we met at the Basement food court. We headed out of department store together and had our first streetside finger food in the cold, cold weather. What can I say, the atmosphere was great.. Steaming beancurb skin dipped into the Korean-styled soy sauce¡¦ I love Korea!

[1] I really miss the street snacks

[2] Having a friendly conversation with the Ah Ju Ma and she actually wanted to visit Singapore!

Subway tix machine in Busan is slightly different from Seoul. Busan's tix prices are more standard. It is either W900 or W1,000 regardless of distance whereas Seoul is more expensive and the tix prices vary.

Taken in the subway train:

Jessica's imitation Levi jean

I adore S.Korea's door...

So far all of the hostels that we

stayed have this kinda security lock.

And back in hostel to uploading photos onto the internet.

*±â´ëÁö¸¶½Ã¿À (gi dae ji ma shi oh) = Do not lean against the door.
